Jeremy Haile
DIRECTOR OF POLICY
Jeremy Haile is Director of Policy at For The People, where he leads the national team’s work to further the expansion of Prosecutor-Initiated Resentencing. Jeremy oversees For The People’s policy strategy and advocacy – and is responsible for developing national partnerships to advance For The People’s federal legislative priorities.
From 2008 to 2012, Jeremy served as legislative counsel in the office of Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), where he handled judiciary issues such as the Fair Sentencing Act and coordinated federal judicial appointments for the Texas Democratic Delegation. In 2010, Jeremy was instrumental in passing bipartisan legislation, signed into law by President Obama, to protect legal aid – a bill the American Bar Association recognized with its Equal Justice Award.
After that, Jeremy was counsel at The Sentencing Project, leading federal advocacy on sentencing policy, prison reform, and reentry before Congress, the White House, and the U.S. Department of Justice. In 2014, Jeremy coordinated national efforts to defeat a Senate amendment that would have denied food stamps to people with criminal convictions.
Jeremy earned his law degree from the George Washington University Law School and is a member of the New York Bar. He also serves on the board of Indivisible Civics. In his free time, Jeremy enjoys basketball, mid-century jazz, and exploring new neighborhoods. He lives with his partner Jen in San Francisco.
