Lizzie Lockwood

Director of Legal Training & Staff Attorney 

Lizzie Lockwood is the Director of Legal Training & Staff Attorney at For The People, where she leads DA and Pro-Bono training; oversees For The People’s internship and fellow programs; and ensures ongoing case review. Notably, Lizzie leads the Aoki Criminal Justice Practicum, a partnership between the University of California, Davis Law School, the Yolo District Attorney’s Office, the Amador District Attorney’s Office, and For The People. Through this course, law students are able to gain firsthand experience in the practice of Prosecutor-Initiated Resentencing. Since joining For The People, she has reviewed hundreds of cases and helped directly facilitate the resentencing and early release of 40+ people. 

Prior to joining For The People, Lizzie spent a decade working as a post-conviction criminal defense investigator on capital cases for the Habeas Corpus Resource Center. As an investigator, she developed a fierce passion for criminal justice and prison reform, and she became dedicated to working to bring people home from prison.

Lizzie earned her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law (now UC Law SF) and received her B.A. from Wesleyan University. While at Hastings, Lizzie was a senior editor for the Hastings Environmental Law Journal, a Teaching Assistant for Legal Writing and Research, a judicial extern for the Hon. Haywood Gilliam in U.S. District Court, and received awards for her work in Legal Writing and Research, Moot Court, and a seminar on Wrongful Convictions. Lizzie's passion for and dedication to criminal justice reform and decarceration efforts brought her to For The People.Her areas of expertise include post-conviction criminal defense and mitigation. 

In her free time, Lizzie enjoys spending time with her dog and going to Warriors games. Lizzie currently lives in Oakland, CA.
