Puja Bhatia
Senior National Attorney
Puja Bhatia is the Senior National Attorney at For The People, where she leads national Prosecutor-Initiated Resentencing implementation efforts and strategies on national policy expansion. Prior to joining For The People, Puja spent over five years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office in the District of Columbia, where she prosecuted homicide cases in D.C. Superior Court as well as individuals who participated in the January 6th Capitol Riot in U.S. District Court.
In her pro bono work, Puja represented clients seeking expungement or sealing of their criminal convictions. Puja has worked with several domestic violence organizations, assisting survivors and their families as they navigate transitional housing, employment, and mental health resources.
Previously, Puja was an associate at the law firm of Nossaman LLP as a member of the Public Policy and Litigation practice groups. She led clients through a wide array of civil litigation and government relations matters, providing guidance on complex campaign finance, gift giving, and lobbying compliance matters for clients interacting with public officials and employees on a variety of levels, as well as representing clients during state and federal ethics investigations.
In her free time, Puja enjoys traversing farmers markets with her daughter and spending weekends on the beach. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her family.
