Silicon Valley DeBug
Participatory Defense is an organizing model developed at Silicon Valley De-Bug. Led by the very families whose loved ones are facing charges in the system, Participatory Defense is a community organizing model for people facing charges, their families, and communities to impact the outcome of cases and transform the landscape of power in the court system. It is a model that has been developed in the last eleven years. Since then, De-Bug has been training other community-based organizations, or “Participatory Defense Hubs,” and the model is being implemented in cities across the country, including in jurisdictions with PIR. Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
